Retired teachers will meet on April 18

PRINCETON —  Phyllis Fasking, president, has announced that the Bureau County Retired Teachers’ Association will hold its first spring meeting beginning at noon April 18 at the Princeton Public Library with a catered luncheon by Kramer’s Kitchen of Princeton for a nominal cost of $10 per person.

The program, which will begin at about 12:30 p.m., will be given by John Flaherty, legislative chairman for the Illinois Retired Teachers’ Association. Participants may attend either the luncheon and the program, or just the program. Spouses are always welcome and/or invitations to any former teaching colleagues is encouraged as well. The local association membership dues of $10 for the retiree will also be collected at this meeting. Anyone wishing to attend the IRTA Area 1 Conference on May 15 at Illinois Valley Community College may register by paying a fee of $10 for that event as well.

Dates and topics for the association’s upcoming meetings will be:

• May 16 — noon to 2 p.m. with Dr. Elvin M. Krabill, DDS, speaking on his volunteer service in Belize followed by Nancy Cramer describing the ABBA group benefits available through the Illinois Retired Teachers’ Association.

• Sept. 19 — noon to 2 p.m. with Jim Bachman, executive director of the Illinois Retired Teachers’ Association.

• Oct. 17 — noon to 2 p.m. with Bob Lyons, a teacher on the Teacher Retirement System Board.
