Hall High School

SPRING VALLEY – The Hall High School Board took action on the following items at its meeting March 20:

• Heard an update on the district’s financial status from Superintendent Mike Struna. Struna said state aid has decreased the three several years, costing the district more than $438,000. In addition, Gov. Pat Quinn’s proposed budget would reduce the aid by another 9 percent. Struna said the district survived the reduction by reducing staff and raising fees in 2010. “Now we’re back to Square 1,” he said. He said the board would review more proposed cuts in April for the 2014-15 school year.

• Approved a health and life safety application for the boiler repairs, which are estimated to cost $20,000 to $30,000.

• Heard the first reading of several new board policies. Struna said one of the most significant was on student residency. Struna said students have transferred in without proof of residency, but they do have to live in the district.

• Approved holding a special board meeting at 6 p.m. May 7 for reorganization.

• Reassigned David Lasser from his guidance position to the business teaching position effective the 2013-14 school year.

• Accepted the resignation of Molly Schrishuhn effective June 30.

• Renewed the employment contracts of Mary Drumheller, Brian Green, Kayleen Halsam, Bettyann Harrison, Ann Maller, Josiah Martin, Adam Meyer, Joe Rue and Jessica Strouss for the 2013-14 school year.

• Rehired Angie Carpenter as assistant principal for the 2013-14 school year.

• Extended the contract of assistant Principal Eric Bryant through the 2014-15 school year.
