Elvera Taets

ANNAWAN — Elvera L. Taets, 92, of Geneseo, formerly of Annawan, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care, Geneseo.

Born Jan. 24, 1921, in Annawan to Julius and Elizabeth (DeRycke) DeDecker, she married Raymond Taets Jan, 9, 1946, in Annawan. He died July 26, 2002.

She was raised and educated in the Annawan area and had attended Hershey School of Beauty Culture in Kewanee. She had worked in Havens Beauty Salon in Annawan and had a shop in her own home for several years.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Atkinson and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a past officer of Henry County Home Extension, served on the board of Annawan-Alba Library, was a member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge and had volunteered for the bloodmobile for many years.

Surviving are one daughter, Carol Lynn Bogner of Lombard; one son, Gail (Jodi) Taets of Princeton; one granddaughter, Hallie Taets of Princeton; one stepgranddaughter, Lisa (Joshua) Catton; one stepgrandson, Joshua Lange; one stepgreat-grandson, Karter Catton; two sisters, Bernadine (Arnold) Betcher of Annawan and Helen DeVrieze of Annawan; and one brother, Francis DeDecker of Sheffield.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Delores Hartman.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Atkinson, with Father Tony Lee officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Annawan.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 5 p.m. today, Sunday, at the Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Annawan, with a parish rosary at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Elvera Taets Memorial Fund or to Sacred Heart Cemetery.
