Red Devils trip Roanoke in nine innings

Hall’s Brett Fanning drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the ninth inning for an 8-7 baseball win at Roanoke-Benson in Tri-County Conference play Tuesday.

The excitement continued down to the final out with Hall pitcher Taggert Venegas escaping a two-out, bases loaded and a full count jam with a line out to left fielder Miguel Villarreal.

The Red Devils scored four in the seventh to tie the game at 7. Venegas, Danny Nolasco, Fanning, Villarreal and Ian Trevier all had two hits.

Bureau Valley 12, Amboy 9: The Clippers’ rally came up short in an ugly Three Rivers game Tuesday that featured 15 errors. Down 12-1, Amboy (8-4, 3-2) scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth. Andrew Klein cleared the bases with a three-run double, and Tyson Powers plated him with a triple before scoring on a wild pitch. But Keaton Wagenecht came on and got the last four outs for the save.

Kyle Rokey (1-2) got the win for Bureau Valley (2-4, 1-2), which got two RBIs from Colby Wittig.

Bruins 4, Hall 1: Brandon Pietrowski pitched a gem for the Bruins Monday, limiting the Red Devils to five hits, striking out 11 and giving up one unearned run in going the distance. He moves his record to 3-0 on the year.

The Bruins were led offensively by Bobby Morrow with two hits including a home run. Brad Groleau also homered over the right field fence. Logan Bima added a double for the Bruins while Damin Smith had a two-out RBI single in the second inning.

Blake Moreno’s double was one of five Hall hits. Hall starter Brett Fanning struck out 14, allowing eight hits and three earned runs in six innings.

Putnam County 12, Henry 1: The Panthers scored in every inning of Tuesday’s six-inning victory. Cody Ballerini had three hits with two RBIs and a double.

Princeton 10, Henry 5: The Tigers pushed five runs across in the fifth inning Monday to break a 5-5 tie. Jason Bowler went four innings to get the win with relief help from J.J.
