Looking for a cheaper alternative
TISKILWA — Tiskilwa Mayor Randy Philhower told Jack Kusek, village engineer, at Tuesday’s meeting of the Tiskilwa Village Board to explore a cheaper alternative to fixing the village’s wastewater plant problems.
Kusek recommended an option to spend $140,000 to $150,000 to rebuild the plugged up sand filters at the wastewater plant to get better drainage and not be as tough to maintain.
Philhower told Kusek he would want to know how much it will cost to replace the existing sand and pipes to prevent the duckweed problem that has reduced the sand’s effectiveness in allowing drainage in the wastewater plant’s pool. Philhower said the current system has worked for many years, and he didn’t want Kusek to spend any more money to draw up plans on the more expensive alternative he proposed to village board members.
