Batting a thousand
SPRING VALLEY — The Bureau Valley Storm boys’ track and field team would make for a pretty good baseball team this spring. They’ve gone three up and three down in the early going of the 2013 season, batting one thousand when it comes to winning invitational meets.
On Saturday, the Storm added another piece of hardware to their trophy case, capturing the Rollie Morris Invitational at Hall High School by a runaway victory over Mendota (64) and St. Bede (63) with 155.5 points. Already this season, they’ve won the Don Gooden Classic at Mendota and the Howard-Monier Invitational at Princeton.
“It’s always a goal to win the meets,” BV coach Nick Hartz said. “A lot of it is these kids have a lot of pride in all that they do. They see a lot of teams in the area that maybe think they are doing a little bit better. I’ll be honest, I think our team is performing as well as any team in the area, and in terms of all around performances, we got kids scoring points everywhere. So its nice to see it now, early in the season. Hopefully, that will continue on in May and towards end of May for sectionals and state. If we can keep it the way it is, I’m going to be happy all year long.”
