Peru Pizza Hut to help Hall pantry

PERU – Knowing that it won’t be long before school is out for the summer, the board of directors of Project Success are searching for ways to prepare the Hall Township Food Pantry for summer giving needs.

Executive Director Jan Martin said students have the opportunity to eat two meals a day at school during the school year, but in the summer, they look toward their parents to provide those missed meals.

“This may be an easy task for parents who are financially stable, but families who are already food insecure have even greater need during the summer,” Martin said.

Martin said that increase in need is felt at food pantries, which have their own seasonal shortages.

“Holidays are a great giving time in communities, but it is a long dry spell between Easter and Thanksgiving,” Martin said. “For this reason, pantries must be creative and seek ways to purchase food.”

One way is to look for businesses willing to sponsor fundraisers, and Martin said the Peru Pizza Hut has stepped forward. From 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, customers may purchase tickets ($9 adult - $5 children) for a pizza buffet, with proceeds directed toward the food pantry. Tickets may be purchased at the door, from a board member or at the food pantry, located at 500 N. Terry St. in Spring Valley.

In addition to the buffet, there will be a bake sale and 50/50 raffle.

Project Success of Eastern Bureau County sponsors the Hall Township Food Pantry.
