At St. Bede: After a long layoff due to weather, the St. Bede Bruins baseball team got back into action in a big way, sweeping the Serena Huskers 17-0, 12-0 at the Academy on Saturday.

In game 1, Ladd’s Damin Smith picked up the victory going three innings striking out six Huskers along the way. Michael  Bellino pitched the final two innings.

Offensively, the Bruins were led by Brad Groleau with a single, double and four RBIs along with Logan Bima who had a double, triple and thee RBIs. Also contributing for the Bruins were Sam Lucas who added a double, single and three RBIs, Steven Ebener with a single and triple, and Bellino with a double and single.

In game 2, Groleau earned the win going three innings  and striking out six Huskers. Brandon Pietrowski threw the final two innings.

At the dish, the Bruins were led by Pietrowski and Bellino with each collecting a single, double and four RBIs along with Bima, Lucas and Jake Postula smacking two hits each.

The Bruins move to 9-0 on the season and will host the PC Panthers on Wednesday at the Academy.

At Hennepin: Crete Illinois Lutheran beat Putnam County 1-0 for the championship of the Putnam County’s Legend Wooden Bat Tournament, Saturday. In other tournament action, PC beat Hartsburg-Emden 2-0 behind Tyler Williams’ shutout pitching and rallied for eight runs in the ninth inning to trip Bureau Valley 10-2.

Cody Ballerini went six innings for the win against Bureau Valley. Evan Krieser, Xavier Warren and Austin Pletsch each had two hits.

Bureau Valley rode the pitching of Keaton Wagenknecht to an 8-0 win over Hartsburg. Cody Mattingly drove in three runs and Bryce Hansen had two RBIs.
