The St. Bede Lady Bruins swept a doubleheader Saturday, defeating Leland/Earlville 8-0 and the host Lady Redskins 4-2.
Lydia Stariha had three hits and Lainie Schweickert added two hits and two RBIs against L/E. Emmi Christensen tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 11 batters for the win.
The Lady Bruins broke through with three runs in the third inning to secure the win over Morris. Barbi Prokup doubled, Emmi Christensen had a two-run single and Abby Nowakowski added a RBI single.
“In game 2, we battled. Their pitcher was throwing quite a bit of off speed stuff. It took us a while to adjust,” SBA coach Bill Prokup said. “Our number 1 and 2 hitters (Stariha and Prokup) have been getting on base and we have found the key hit when we needed it.”
Schweickert, the winning pitcher, fanned 13 batters while allowing six hits and two walks.
