Alfred Rod

MENDOTA — Alfred "Fritz" Rod, 79, of Mendota, formerly of Sublette, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at Mendota Community Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1933, in LaMoille to Ross and Verna (Wendel) Rod.

He was a graduate of Mendota High School. He was a salesman for Schaffer Oil Co. and then started his own business which was known as American Specialists Lubricants, and in 1974 until 1990 he became a distributor for Baldwin Filters. In November 1986 he became a distributor for Walker Mowers and oversaw 40 dealers while employed by them until retiring in April 2007. He was engaged in farming in both the Sublette and LaMoille area until 1987.

Surviving are two daughters, Nigal (David) Oleson of Genoa and Robin (Greg) Cason of Dixon; three sons, Rodney (Cynthia) Rod of Arlington, Ross (Carmen) Rod of Marseilles and David (Tianna) Rod of South Elgin; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph Rod of Princeton and Donald (Shirley) Rod of Amboy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James; and one grandson, Chase.

Services will be at 11 am. Saturday at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Slutz officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Mendota.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
