Galena Trail and Coach Road conference set
DIXON — The early history of Illinois will be the focus of this year’s Galena Trail and Coach Road Society Conference Saturday at the Dixon Historic Center in Dixon.
The period from 1800 to 1835 was pivotal in the formation of the political, cultural and economic future of the state. The Society has as part of its mission the preservation of public awareness about this formative period.
The conference will feature two speakers familiar with the significance of this period. Gillum Ferguson is the author of the well researched, “Illinois In the War of 1812.” Ferguson is a former state and federal prosecutor in Illinois. Also speaking will be John Day whose focus of interest is the Black Hawk War with a special concern for the Battle of Kellogg’s Grove. Day spent his professional career with the Chicago Police Department.
