PC tops St. Bede in 10 innings

The Putnam County Lady Panthers outlasted the St. Bede Lady Bruins 2-1 in a marathon game in 10 innings Monday at Granville.

Stephanie Wilson reached on a walk followed by a misplayed bunt from Carly Gonet. PC leadoff hitter Lauren Colby stroked a two-out, two-strike single to right field for the game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th.

Shelby Yepsen was the winner, allowing one unearned run while striking out 10 and walking only one. Lainie Schweickert struck out 23 in 9 2/3 innings, but still took the loss for St. Bede. Both runs unearned.

LaSalle-Peru 8, Princeton 0: Brittany Zawacki shut the Tigresses out in three hits in a battle of I-80 rivals. Mollie Bates led PHS (6-6) with two hits and Madison Menzel had one. Menzel took the loss in the circle, surrendering eight runs on fives hits while allowing four earned runs in a game in which PHIS committed five errors.

Haley Wren had two hits for the Lady Cavs.
