Bureau County still wet, but budding beautifully
As I drove around Princeton Tuesday, I was totally amazed by all the flowering trees and bushes that I saw. Just a week ago when it was much cooler and rainy, there was hardly a bud on any tree. Yellow, white and purple can now be seen on almost every block. I am a little sad because I know they won’t be around very long, but we all can enjoy them this week.
May is here and Bureau County seems to be really behind, due to unusual spring weather. We certainly hope to dry out a little bit so our farmer friends can get into the fields. I don’t keep track, but it seems that we haven’t been this far behind heading intro May in many years.
With a little more sun and some higher temperatures, we might be able to find some morels. Without a doubt, they are one of my favorite outdoor delicacies. My dad taught me how to search for them when I was little, but I never became as good a hunter as he was. Then, Mom would fry them up so they would be a meal fit for a king. Such great memories.
