DePue's Superfund site attracts national news

A reporter and cameraman from Univision, a Spanish-language news network, were in DePue recently working on a story about DePue’s Superfund site and the village’s fight with responsible parties, Exxon Mobil and Viacom International Incorporated/CBS to clean-up the site. Reporter Mariano Gielis interviewed DePue Mayor Eric Bryant while on a tour through the Superfund’s five operable units in the village. Students from DePue High School’s student environmental group and science teacher Keith Garcia were also interviewed about their recent Superfund encapsulation project, which they developed as a method to encapsulate and immobilize contaminates in soil, sediment, sludge and waste piles. Pictured is Gielis during his interview with students Adilene Gavina, Servando Moreno, Jacob Aden and Garcia.
