Princeton Women’s Auxiliary and Legion will meet Wednesday

PRINCETON — American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will conduct its monthly business meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Legion post home, 1549 W. Peru St., Princeton.

Final plans will be put into place for the upcoming District 16 spring meeting hosted by the Princeton Unit on Saturday. Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. and the business meeting will be called to order at 9 a.m.

The Unit will hold nominations and elections of Unit officers for the new year at this meeting and all members are encouraged to attend. Elections will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Other business will concern the upcoming Memorial Day services beginning at Oakland Cemetery at 8 a.m. May 27. Members attending the services are reminded to wear the blue service uniform and comfortable shoes.

Poppy chairman Bernice Burke will distribute poppies and the poppy story bookmarks at this meeting. Members are asked to let the chairman know who you are and where you will be located. Donation canisters will be provided if needed.

VA&R (veterans) information can be had by calling chairman Clara Pease at 815-872-0430. Monetary donations can be mailed to Pease at 321 Briar Lane, Princeton, IL 61356 or same to ALA 125, 1549 W. Peru St., Princeton, IL 61356, Attn: Veterans.

Membership information can be had by attending any scheduled business meeting at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month or by calling Carol Allicks at 815-872-7891. New and transfer members are always welcome to join the Auxiliary.

Roger L. Eickmeier American Legion Post 125 of Princeton will also conduct its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the post home.

Any honorably discharged U.S. veteran interested in joining the American Legion should attend this or any scheduled business meeting for membership information. Routine agenda will be heard and upcoming fundraisers will be discussed.

The next cook-out date for the Princeton Veterans Group is June 22 at Sullivan’s grocery store. Serving will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Donations are being accepted for an upcoming rummage sale in June at the Legion post. Call Brad at 815-866-9349 or the post home at 815-872-1171 and leave a message.

Nominations/elections will be conducted for officers of the Legion post for the upcoming new year. All members are encouraged to attend this and all meetings.

One- and two-blue star service banners are available from the Legion as well as American-made 3-by-5-foot U.S. flags. Old flag disposal is also provided at the post home vestibule.

The legion building is available for graduation birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, rummage sales, business meetings, family gatherings, etc. Call the Legion home at 815-872-1171 and leave a message for information.

A light lunch will be served after the meetings for a donation.
