Special Olympics
SPRING VALLEY — Mother Nature has rained on the Starved Rock Area Special Olympics Area 16 Spring Games parade of athletes. Due to poor facility conditions as result of the weather, the Spring Games set for Saturday have been cancelled.
"As always, the safety of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, staff, and spectators is our number one priority.  The current conditions at our venue would compromise the safety of all involved as well as the quality of this competition," Area 16 director Cheri De Paepe said.
This event will not be made up. A random drawing will be held to determine advancement to Summer Games in June, and the results of that drawing will be announced on Monday.
PHS Senior Night
PRINCETON — Senior night for PHS softball has been postponed to Thursday vs. Midland. Introductions will begin at approximately 4:15 p.m. Other PHS cancelations include Friday's boys track, baseball and tennis contests and Saturday's F/S soccer tournament at Rock Island.
Challenger signups

Ride to remember
OGLESBY — “A Ride to Remember” Poker Run to Benefit the Captain Thomas J. Heitmann Memorial Fund will be held May 18. Cost is $20 per person for the ride and $10 for dinner only, This Memorial Fund is an on-going fund that will allow the family, friends and alumni of Saint Bede Academy to pursue Thomas’ dream of a Track and Field complex on campus. PHS volleyball camp
PRINCETON — The 2013 Princeton Tigresses Volleyball Camp will be held June 10-13 at Logan Junior High School. There are sessions for grades 4-6, grades 7-8, grades 9-10 and varsity. Cost is $65 or $50 per camper from the same family. Due to change of location, camp spots are limited this year. Brochures are available at PHS. PHS summer soccer
PRINCETON — Coach Jason Bird has announced the summer schedule for the Princeton Tiger soccer team. They will be meeting at 5 p.m. at the old children's home practice field on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in June and from July 8-18. they will play at Byron on July 18 and travel to the Bradley Team Camp from July 21-25. Thank Dank 5K
MENDOTA – The fourth annual “Thank Dank” James Dankenbring Scholarship 5K Trail Run/Walk will be held May 5 at the Mendota Civic Center. Registration is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m.
The event is held at Lake Kakusha in memory of James Dankenbring. The course is a fast, flat trail that circles the lake. The property is well maintained with established grass trails through wooded and prairie lots. The course will be well marked and equipped with water stations at miles one and two.
The entry fee is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the race. Checks should be made payable to the James Dankenbring Scholarship Fund-MHS and mailed to 726 N. 38th Road, Mendota, IL 61342. Online registration is available at
