Area athletes qualify for IESA State meet
Area athletes competed in three area 1A sectionals Saturday for the right to advance in the IESA State Junior High Track and Field finals in East Peoria this week. Here’s a rundown of results that were reported.
At Princeton: Princeton Christian Academy’s Eagle track team of just nine students competed well Saturday, sending two athletes to state. Eighth-graders Grace Wolbrecht qualified for State with second in the 800 and Mauricio Jones qualified by taking second in the long jump.
For Malden, seventh-grade sectional champs were Kendra Cain (100, 14.0; long jump, 13-5) and Aleesha Foster (hurdles, 18.97; shot, 21-11). Other Malden qualifiers with seconds were Jayda Ramsey (200) and Taylor Hall (1600, discus). The seventh-graders 4x100 relay of Cain, Foster, Ramsey and Mikayla Wilhelm also qualified with a second place finish
