Crundwell transferred to Chicago prison

DIXON — Rita Crundwell has been transferred to a different correctional facility, at least for now, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Crundwell is being housed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. She had been held in the Boone County Jail since being sentenced in February.

The downtown correctional center is an administrative facility designed to house federal prisoners of all security levels, both men and women offenders, who appear before federal courts in the Northern District in Illinois, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons' website.

The former Dixon city comptroller was sentenced to 19 years, 7 months in prison in February for federal wire fraud. Her attorney has since appealed that sentence with an argument due in June.

Last week, theft charges against Crundwell in Lee County were dismissed without prejudice. At that time, Lee County State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller said she would notify the U.S. marshals to "get the ball rolling" in finding Crundwell a permanent prison assignment.
