Protect my rights

On April 23, 2013, the Lee County Zoning Board of Appeals voted 4-1 that Mainstream’s application is in compliance with the current Lee County Zoning Ordinance for Wind Energy Conversion Systems. Later the Lee County Zoning Board of Appeals voted 3-2 to deny the Mainstream request for a permit. If Mainstream met all the requirements of the Lee County Zoning Ordinance for Wind Energy Conversion Systems, why did the Lee County Zoning Board of Appeals deny Mainstream a permit?

Our schools are suffering because the state has not paid them what they are owed. Now the state wants to cut transportation funds to almost nothing. The state wants the local districts to pay the teachers’ pensions. Funds from Mainstream would help fill the gap, so that teachers would not be laid off and programs such as sports and music would not be eliminated.

Lee County government is seeing a decrease in revenue because of the landfill. What programs will be cut there? No deputies to patrol our county? No funds to maintain our roads?

If Mainstream is granted permits, the local economy would expand immensely. Remember, not only do our taxing bodies benefit, but the participating landowners would receive a generous amount each year of their contract.

I have lived in Lee County for 65 years. I own farmland in Lee County. I pay thousands upon thousands of dollars in property taxes every year.

I live next to Big Sky wind farm. I do not hear any noise from their wind turbines; I do not feel any vibrations; I do not get any shadow flicker; The lights on their turbines do not bother me in the least; The roads they have repaired are in much better shape than they were before the Big Sky project.

Please protect my constitutionally guaranteed private property rights. My husband and I made a lot of sacrifices and took a lot of chances to pay for this property. I should be the one to make the decision if I want to build a wind turbine on my farm. Mainstream’s application should be granted.
