McKinkley Kruger has made his pitch for Illinois Valley Community College.
The Bureau Valley senior signed to play baseball for the IVCC Eagles. He said IVCC offered him the opportunity to continue to play baseball and it was affordable to go there.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity that lies ahead of me of at IVCC,” said Kruger, who also considered Ashford University.
BV coach John Matlick said IVCC will give him a “chance to play and compete” and if he wants to take the next step to a four-year school.
IVCC is looking for a new coach to replace Eric Pinter, who resigned the following the completion of the 2013 season.
Kruger plans to study business management.
• Remember the Titans: Hall senior Landon Piccatto looked at several College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin schools to play football. In the end, he selected the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans.
“I just loved it when I visited there,” he said. “It’s not too far and it’s a good college town with ISU there. They’ve got a good football program with good academics.”
Piccatto, who plans to study history, expects to start out as a special teams player with an eye on playing running back.
• Twice as nice: Two Hall High School seniors have recently signed on with St. Francis University in Joliet. David McManus, the BCR Bowler of the Year, will continue his career for St. Francis, which will be fielding a bowling program for the first time next year. Classmate Joseph Parochetti will run for the Saints’ cross country and track programs.
• Double play: Princeton High School seniors Lexi Marselle and Becca Turpen have been offered scholarships to play soccer for Illinois Central College. They will sign Thursday at PHS.
• Close to home: St. Bede Academy’s senior Logan Bima will stay close to home to play baseball at IVCC.
