CHARLESTON - Lindsey Hoffert has jumped herself back into contention for another medal in the IHSA State Track and Field competition.
The Bureau Valley sophomore is ranked fourth overall in the 1A long jump competition with a jump of 16 feet, 11 3/4 inches in Thursday's prelims at O'Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. She was the State runner-up in the long jump a year ago.
Teammate Regan Weidner is ranked 13th heading into Saturday's 3200 meter run based on sectional seeding. She placed third last year. There are no State prelims in the 3200.
Kewanee's Freya Block, a senior from Neponset, is in position to medal twice in the weights. She is ranked second in both the discus (121-6) and shot put (40-4 3/4).
Neither Bureau Valley sophomore Sydney Lebahn (discus) or Amboy/LaMoille senior Autumn Smith (shot) were able to advance. Hoffert also failed to advance in the 400 meters, missing qualifying by one place with a 13th-place time of 27.34.
Princeton's Zoe Mead (400,800) and Phoenix Smallwood (triple jump, long jump) will compete in Friday's 2A prelims.

Freya Block-sr (Kewanee, Neponset): Discus - 2nd in flight, 2nd overall, 121-6. Shot put - 2nd in flight, 2nd overall, 40-4 3/4.
Autumn Smith-sr (Amboy/LaMoille): Discus - did not advance, 6th in flight, 15th overall, 33-10 3/4.
