Regional baseball/softball update

Bruins, Panthers march on

The St. Bede and Putnam County ball teams turned a regional double play Saturday.

The Lady Bruins defended their house, defeating Mendota 9-2 in Saturday's 2A regional title game. Mo Dean hit a solo homer and third baseman cracked a grand slam. Ace pitcher Lainie Schweickert took care of the rest. for the Lady Bruins, who will face Rock Island Alleman at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Oregon Sectional. Alleman beat Morrison 7-0 to win the Bureau Valley Regional title.

The Bruins baseball team tripped the home team at Ottawa Marquette 2-1 for a 2A regional title. The Bruins will travel to Seneca to face Beecher at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

At Granville, the Putnam County baseball team whipped Newark 15-0 while their softball counterparts edged Marquette 3-0 in Class 1A.

The Panthers baseball team will face Holy Trinity at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gardner Sectional. The Lady Panthers venture to the Midland Sectional to take on Princeville, also on Wednesday.

Oregon 2A Baseball Regional: The host Hawks beat Mendota 1-0 on walk-off, bases loaded passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning.
