WALNUT — The nation’s premier ATV Motocross series, The 2013 Mountain Dew ATV Motocross National Championship, sanctioned by AMA, will reach its mid-way point this weekend in Walnut with the Sunset Ridge ATVMX National on Saturday.
Defending champion and current points leader Chad Wienen will attempt to defend his National title in front of his homestate crowd this weekend in Illinois. Born and raised in Galena, Wienen has historically performed well in front of friends, family and fans at the local track. Coming into Round 5 this weekend, Wienen holds two consecutive overall wins and a third could come with the hype and excitement of his homestate race.
The nationally televised series on NBC Sports’ Racer TV program is broadcast to over millions of households. Each event is also broadcasted on RacerTVOnline.com. The event is predicted to attract more than 800 riders
The pro riders will run Saturday as part of a full schedule of amateur racing, including classes for youth, women and veteran riders. Amateurs will practice on Friday and race on Saturday and Sunday, while pros race on Saturday. Tickets on Saturday are $20 for spectators ($10 for ages 6-11), and admission includes full pro-pit access and an autograph session.
The third Annual Susan G Komen Breast Cancer track walk will take place Friday at 5 p.m. Sunset Ridge MX invites all racers, spectators and sponsors to “go pink” for breast cancer awareness by adorning their clothing, gear and pits in the color pink
