EWING – The U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management will hold its only Illinois wild horse and burro adoption near Mt. Vernon June 21-22.

The event will take place at the Ewing Wild Horse Facility, located at 22295 Sheep Farm Road in Ewing, located 20 miles south of Mt. Vernon.

There will be a preview from 2 to 7 p.m. June 21, and the auction will take place June 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., first come, first served.

The horses and burros available for adoption come from overpopulated herd management areas where vegetation and water could become scarce if too many animals, including wildlife and livestock, use the area.
