WALNUT – Don’t forget this Friday is the third annual Susan G. Komen Track Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser in Walnut at the Sunset Ridge MX Park.
According to Jan Pistole, co-owner of Sunset Ridge MX, the event is expected to attract around 200 to 300 participants.

“We are fortunate to have wonderful participation from people from across the country who enjoy a chance to get out and walk the 1.8 mile motocross track at the end of a long day of supporting their friends who are practicing for national races,” she said.

All the money raised will support the Quad Cities and Memorial Affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Last year’s event raised more than $8,000.

“Since every dollar raised goes to support our local affiliates, we look forward to welcoming local citizens who support the efforts of this very important organization,” Pistole said. “We look forward to challenging ourselves and everyone involved to go beyond our contribution in 2012.”

For those unable to walk the track but wish, shuttle transportation across the course will be offered..

“We all know or will know someone who has been impacted by (breast cancer), and the goal is to raise money to help researchers eradicate it for future generations,” Pistole said.

The walk will begin at 5 p.m. following the ATV practice sessions. Registration will be open from noon to 4 p.m. The cost is $20 per registration. The first 200 participants will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag the day of the event.
