St. Margaret’s Hospital’s health calendar

SPRING VALLEY — St. Margaret’s Hospital has announced events for the first week of June. They are:

Parkinson’s support group: Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Hospital’s First Floor Presentation Room. This group is for persons affected by Parkinson’s disease. Family and friends are invited to attend.

The group offers emotional support, socialization and an opportunity to share information with others who are affected by Parkinson’s Disease. Free valet parking is provided, and wheelchairs are available in the hospital. For more information call 815-664-5311.

Prenatal care class: Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the First Floor Presentation Room. This class is designed for pregnant women in their first and second trimesters.

Participants will receive information on fetal growth and development, prenatal testing, fitness and nutrition and signs and symptoms of preterm labor. Additional topics will include how to palpate contractions and perform the fetal kick count as well as examining the minor discomforts of pregnancy and tips on how to relieve them.

The ABCs of Prenatal Care class is one component of the family birthing services offered at St. Margaret’s. For more information, or to register, contact St. Margaret’s Family Birthing Centre at 815-664-1345 or 815-22305346, ext. 1345.

Heartsaver CPR sessions: Tuesday from 6 to 10 p.m. in the First Floor Presentation Room. The class is designed for lay responders who are serving as rescuers as part of their job responsibilities and are not required to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This could include police, firefighters, lifeguards, daycare employees, flight attendants, security personnel and any other lay rescuers and those who may have to respond in an emergency.

The cost is $25. Pre-registration is required. There is also the option to add the First Aid class for an additional $30. The total cost for both classes would be $55. For more information, or to register, call St. Margaret’s Occupational Health and Wellness Department at (815) 664-1613.

“Visions” support group: Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the First Floor Presentation Room. This group is for the blind and visually impaired. “Visions” meets regularly on the first and third Thursday of each month from 12:30 to 2 p.m. For more information, call 815-664-1440.
