Benefit planned

LASALLE — A leukemia cancer benefit for Ryan Seaworth, 5, of Princeton the son of Kate Seaworth, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. June 15 at the Paramont Catering Hall, 2411 St. Vincent’s St., LaSalle. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. The event will also include food, music by Jimmy Essl, a 50/50, bake sale and silent auction. Program kick-off

WYANET — The R.A. Sapp Library in Wyanet will kick off its summer reading program, “Have Book Will Travel,” at 2 p.m. Monday. Registration has been taking place at the library during normal hours but may also be done at the first program. The Forest Park Nature Center in Peoria will come to the library on Monday and present the program “Amazing Migrations.” All ages are welcome.

Diabetes education

SPRING VALLEY — A free diabetes education class series will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 10 in the first floor Presentation Room at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. The classes will continue on the following two Mondays. The class will cover an overview of diabetes, complications and monitoring, nutrition and diet, medications, stress management and social assistance, exercise and activity, and foot, skin and oral care. 5K run/walk

WALNUT — A 5K run/walk benefit to help with medical expenses for Jessica Wallace-Sergeant of Walnut will be at 9 a.m. June 9. Race registration and finish will be at the Walnut Park District. Several years ago, Jessica had cancer and surgeries to beat it. Now it has come back and she is facing more surgery and treatments. Rummage sale

PRINCETON — The Princeton Veterans Group will hold a two-day rummage sale at in the American Legion parking lot at 1549 W. Peru St. in Princeton in conjunction with the “More on 34” weekend, June 14-15. The sale, which will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., will offer lots of items at reasonable prices, including furniture, books, bicycles, trinkets, holiday decorations, lamps, clothing and the usual items. Library program

PRINCETON — The Princeton Public Library will host a Turkish Lute performance by Omer Izgi at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was born in Istanbul, Turkey, and studied tourism management and marketing in Turkey before coming to the United States in 2011. He will perform a program of classical and mystical Turkish music.
