Neponset Public Library will host summer reading program

NEPONSET — The Neponset Public Library will launches its “Have Book - Will Travel” summer reading program from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Saturday.

During the month of June, the library will host a range of free activities for children, teens and adults that encourage and support a love of reading. Participants also can win prizes for reaching their reading goals.

Participants can pick up their “passports”/book logs and enjoy crafts and snacks. Activity days are also scheduled for 10 to 11:15 a.m. every Tuesday in June. Teen book discussion days are every Tuesday in June at 2 p.m.

“We have a great program planned for kids, teens and adults for this summer,” said Carissa Faber, library director.

Themed events include special guest speakers, learning more about railroads, airplanes and so much more.

There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer prevents summer reading loss.

“Studies also indicate students who read recreationally out-performed those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests,” Faber added. “Our libraries are committed to supporting life-long learning and educational enrichment for all our families.”
