Harry Olson

WALNUT — Harry N. Olson, 85, of Walnut died Monday, June 3, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Harry was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Hans and Justine (Hermann) Olson. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was united in marriage to Marian Eberhardt on April 15, 1950, at Sacred Heart Church in Sterling. She preceded him in death. Harry then married Marian A. Kilbride Stone on May 29, 2010, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Walnut.

He farmed in the Walnut area during his lifetime. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Walnut Senior Center and the Whiteside County Senior Center. He also was a member of Walnut American Legion Post 179, the Sterling Moose Lodge and a long-time member of Swinging Stars Square Dance Club of Harmon. He loved animals, enjoyed traveling and was a Chicago Bears fan. He went on the Honor Flight in November of 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Olson of Walnut; his stepchildren, Thomas (Kris) Stone of Walnut, James (Gosia) Stone of Seattle, Wash., Andrew (Chris) Stone of Spring Valley, Susan (the late John) Hagensick of Dallas, Texas,  Mary Ann Stone of Walnut and Julie Stone of Walnut; 11 stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and one sister, Lily Odell.

Funeral prayer services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Walnut with Father Thomas Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Walnut American Legion Post 179.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to Walnut Manor Nursing Home and the Walnut Fire Department.
