Use common sense

Independence Day will soon be here. My children and grandkids love the fireworks. I believe smaller towns with no local police have a problem with fireworks that bigger towns don’t. Yes, most of them are illegal but are tolerated with few problems.

I would like to appeal to all those who have backyard fireworks. It would be nice to have a couple days like July 3 and July 4 and certain hours like 8 to 10 p.m. to do your thing. There are a lot of us who have problems, and fireworks five nights in a row or at midnight or 1 a.m. makes our problems worse.

I have talked to veterans from the two Middle East wars as well as Vietnam and World War II. Yes, once in a while we find ourselves on the bedroom floor. And it’s not just the big M-80s, etc. A small firecracker with it’s distinct “POP” sounds very much like an AK-47.

I am not a party pooper. Just asking if it wouldn’t be nice to think of other people and use a little bit of common sense. Light ‘em up at a decent time, and not a week in a row. Have a great 4th, everyone. Be careful!
