Young looking to unite Illinois Valley soccer

Ed Young has been coaching girls soccer at Princeton High School for 13 seasons. He would like to make the Illinois Valley united as one.

Young is looking to form the Illinois Valley United Soccer Club. He said it would be a move to his benefit his program and all those around the Illinois Valley,

“We want to unify the efforts to enrich soccer in our area,” he said. “We believe providing an opportunity to experience variable coaching styles, strategies and training sessions that players will enhance their understanding of the game. We also believe by creating a greater competitive environment the player will be motivated to reach their potential.

“By uniting our communities, we hope to provide the opportunity to play and train year around fostering team and individual growth.”

While he understands a travel team is major commitment financially and time wise, he is “initiating a careful start and plan on taking gradual steps into full participation in leagues and tournaments.”

The first step is to invite all area soccer players to attend the IV Soccer Camp from July 9-12 at Zearing Park in Princeton. At the time, he said training will be provided and evaluations conducted to construct travel teams. He would like to develop a 19 and under team and an 14 and under team.

“We want to challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and reach beyond your expectations,” he said.

Players do not have to be interested in travel to participate in the camp, Young said. The grade 6-8 session will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with grades 9-12 meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $30 with applications due by July 2.
