Food assistance for flood victims
PRINCETON — Bureau County residents may be able to get food assistance due to the hardships caused by the heavy rains and flooding earlier this spring.
On Monday, Gov. Pat Quinn announced the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) will offer immediate food assistance for the 33 counties impacted by April flooding. Bureau County is one of those 33 counties.
Quinn said the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Services has authorized IDHS offices to offer special Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to residents in those counties declared federal disaster areas as a result of flooding in April.
