LAMOILLE — The LaMoille School District will begin its 2013-14 school year with a new superintendent in place.

Ricardo Espinoza comes to LaMoille from the Rockdale Elementary School District 84, near Joliet in Will County. He replaces Collen Sutton who has retired from the LaMoille district.

A graduate of Mendota High School, Espinoza graduated from Western Illinois University in 1986 and taught in Texas for several years before moving back to Illinois 12 years ago. In Illinois, he worked in the Mendota Elementary School District 289 in a combination position as an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher, assistant principal and grant director. Most recently at Rockdale, he served four years as principal and then four years as superintendent.

Espinoza has a master's degree from University of Houston, Clear Lake, a doctorate from Western Illinois University and received his superintendent certificate from Western Illinois University. Espinoza said he's looking forward to his time in LaMoille. The district seems like a good fit for him because he's familiar with rural schools and rural environments. He has worked in elementary school districts and is looking forward to being superintendent of the high school as well as the elementary school. The LaMoille district was the only one to which he applied, Espinoza said.

When asked what led to his decision to apply for the LaMoille superintendent's position, Espinoza said he likes smaller school districts that have a home environment, like LaMoille. He had heard many wonderful things about the LaMoille school and staff. He believes a lot can be done in the smaller schools, like getting to know the staff and students better, as well as the parents and community, he said.

"It's going to be a nice long journey together. We are going to enjoy it and have fun and continue to see a lot of great things going on here," the new superintendent said.

Espinoza and his wife Rose have three children, Beatriz, 23, Iris 12, and Aaron, 8.
