IVCC offers renewable energy course for teachers

OGLESBY — Junior high, high school and community college instructors are invited to enrol in “Introduction to Renewable Energy Topics for Teachers,” a free, graduate-level credit course meeting from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 8-12 in Room C316 at Illinois Valley Community College.

Participants will learn the basics of renewable energy and develop a renewable energy project for their classroom. The two-credit course introduces teachers to renewable energy’s impact, sources and technologies and assists them in developing hands-on instructional modules.

The course was developed by IVCC and will be taught by Jim Gibson, IVCC program coordinator for wind energy and electronics. Graduate credit is available through Quincy College.

Tuition, materials, breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge in the National Science Foundation Grant-supported course. To register, call 815-224-0447 or visit www.ivcc.edu/onlinecec. For information, contact Jamie Gahm, director of continuing education, at jamie_gahm@ivcc.edu or 815-224-0428.
