SVE breaks ground

SPRING VALLEY – The Spring Valley Elementary School District broke ground on the new addition to John F. Kennedy School during the regular school board meeting Wednesday.

“It’s just amazing to see the size of this project,” Superintendent Jim Hermes said. “It’s quite the process.”

So far, construction has been going as planned and the builders have begun moving dirt and getting the area ready for the geothermal heating system.

“Pretty much every inch of this property is changing,” Hermes said.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a one-year contract extension for Digital Copy Systems, approved the milk contract for 2013-14 with NCIM Distributors, and approved the BMP Joint Agreement for the 2013-14 school year.

• Authorized Allied Design to perform 10-year health and life-safety report.

• Approved a three-year contract with non-certified staff; and hired Bryan Dickinson as a science teacher, Andrew Stickler for RTI math and science, and Mark Higdon as a fourth-grade teacher. The board also approved custodial contracts for D’Mitri Young and Brian Eaba, and accepted the four-year retirement plan for third-grade teacher Sally Wilcoxen.
