Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS to run Saturday

The annual Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS Research is set for Saturday.

Registration will be held at 7 a.m. and the race is at 8 a.m. starting at Bureau Valley North Junior High. Registration is $20. For more information, contact Julie VonHolten at (815) 379-2269, or at

Tiger Tennis Classic: The 2013 Tiger Tennis Classic will be held July 20 and July 27 at Princeton High School.

Doubles play will take the courts the first weekend with matches beginning at 8 a.m. There will be divisions for men’s open, men’s over 40, women’s, mixed and youth including 14 and under, 16 and under and 18 under depending of number of participants.

Singles play will be held July 27 with divisions for men’s open, men’s 40 and over, women’s and youth.

Entry deadline for doubles in July 18 and July 25 for singles. Fees are $14 per person for singles, $12 for doubles per person and $10 for 18 and under. For more information, call Rick Peacock at 815-878-6120 or visit

Manlius Rolle Bolle: Twenty five bolders competed for the top five prizes in the June 26 Manlius Rolle Bolle League action with Allison DeBrock, Harold Oloffson and Tony Marchand taking the top prize. Second went to Lisa Marchand, Dan Chapman and Riley DeBrock, third place to Leslea Wallace, Kenny Rodgers and Richard Huffaker, fourth place to Donna Ericson and Roger DeBrock with two bolles and fifth went to Wilma Anderson, Darrell Wallace and Tyler DeBrock.

Olds-Bohm 5K: The fifth annual Nancy Jo Olds-Bohm 5K run/walk will be held July 13, and will carry on the tradition of benefiting local nonprofit organizations. Registration forms are available at Race registration and packet pickup will be at the Wyanet Memorial Park, from 5 to 7 p.m. July 12 and on race day from 7 to 7:45 a.m.

The 5K and 1 mile memory walk will begin at 8 a.m. The kid’s fun run will begin immediately following the 5K at approximately 9 a.m.

Fastpitch Church League: Mother Nature got the best of the Princeton Fastpitch Church League action once again Saturday with another pair of washouts. Only St. Louis/Covenant has played four games and Princeton Bible has managed only two with three makeups. With a bye week scheduled for the 4th of July Holiday, PBC will have not played in six weeks.

Bureau Township and UMC remained tied atop the league at 3-0. They are followed by Bunker Hill (2-2), St. Matthew’s (2-1), Princeton Bible (1-1), People’s Church (0-3) and St. Louis/Covenant (0-4).

Make-up games are being planned for next week.

Starved Rock Runners clinic: The Starved Rock Runners Club’s running clinics will be held at 6 p.m. at Baker’s Lake every Monday until Aug. 12. There is a kids clinic for ages 7-18 and a women’s clinic for females 18-and-over. For more information, contact Michele Gaeta at

Miracles Happen Golf Outing: The fourth annual Miracles Happen III Golf Outing will take place July 20 at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Course. The cost is $65 per golfer for the four-person scramble until July 13. Registration after this date will be $75.

Registration begins at noon with a shot gun start at 1 p.m. There will be a chicken dinner followed by awards at 6 p.m.
