Princeton investigates burglaries

PRINCETON – Princeton Police Department is investigating a series of vehicle burglaries that have been reported within the last couple weeks.

On Monday, Princeton Police Chief Tom Root confirmed four vehicle burglaries were reported last week, all which occurred on the northeast side of town.

One more vehicle burglary was reported this past weekend, having occurred on South Fifth Street. Root said a wallet had apparently been snatched from the unlocked vehicle.
Root confirmed all vehicles involved in the burglaries had been left unlocked when items were taken from them. He said none of the vehicles were actually broken into.

Root confirmed the burglaries have taken place in vehicles either parked on the street or in the driveways of a residence and have all occurred during the early morning hours.

Root advises residents to keep vehicles locked at all times. He said it’s tempting for some people to walk by and see valuable items such as money, cameras, GPS devices, laptops, iPads, etc. left in sight on the seat or dash of the vehicle.
Root said if someone has to leave items in their car, make sure to cover them or put them in a place out of sight.

“It’s an out of sight, out of mind thing,” Root said. “If they see them, they will open the door and take them.”

The investigation continues into the burglaries. Anyone with information should call the Princeton Police Department at 815-872-2351.
