MENDOTA — The “WGLC/Q Idol Contest” will be the opening event of Mendota’s 66th annual Sweet Corn Festival, slated for Aug. 8–11.

WGLC, Q97.7/103.3 and Studstill Media will sponsor the popular event on Aug. 8. It will be hosted by WGLC Morning Show Host Sloppy Joe and Q Evening Show Host Sweet V. The contest will take place on the Main Street Stage beginning at 6 p.m.

“We are pleased to be hosting the ‘WGLC/Q Idol Contest’ at Mendota’s Sweet Corn Festival. We have had very successful and exciting shows the past several years with many talented competitors,” said Lee Studstill, general manager of Studstill Media. “We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the show.”

Contestants should arrive at 5:30 p.m. and bring a CD with their own music. The CD must have no words — just instrumentals. Prizes are awarded to first and second place in each of the following age categories: 5-10 and 11-15. Space is limited to the first 10 contestants to register in each age category.

Participants must pre-register for the contest by picking up a registration form at the chamber office or by downloading it at www.wglc.net or at www.qhitmusic.com.

Applications are due into the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce office, 800 Washington St., Mendota, IL 61342 by Aug. 3. For more information, call 815-539-6741.
