Valley girls capture District 20 crown

Spring Valley captured the 2013 District 20 Little League Softball championship, defeating LaSalle 13-8 Monday night at Veteran’s Park in Peru.

Spring Valley used two big innings to take the District 20 pennant, scoring four in the first and five in the fifth.

Next up, Spring Valley advances to the Section I Tournament, which will be hosted by District 20 at St. Mary’s Park in LaSalle. Spring Valley opens section play at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Little League Baseball: Ottawa moved into the championship game of the American Division Tournament at Mendota, defeating Spring Valley 6-2 Tuesday. With its first defeat, Spring Valley will come back against Bi-County at 6 p.m. Friday. Their winner will advance to face Ottawa at 6 p.m. Saturday. Bi-County knocked out Mendota 15-2.

WBVL roundup

B League Softball: LaMoille rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie up the Princeton Tigers 4-4. Maddi Deery got the LaMoille rally going with a lead-off triple. The game ended tied by the time limit. The Tigers remain undefeated in eight games at 7-0-1.

Walnut I beat Sheffield-Buda 20-3.

C League Softball: Host LaMoille tripped the Princeton Cardinals 10-7 on Monday. Mari Billhorn was the winning pitcher. Taylor Wetsel had a hit and two RBIs and Brynn Hieronymus added two hits for the Cardinals.

Also Monday, the Princeton Pirates outlasted the Princeton Cubs 12-1 while host Annawan edged Wyanet in extra innings, handing Wyanet its first defeat. A Tuesday makeup saw the Princeton Tigers trip the Princeton Cardinals 7-4.

In WBVL baseball play, Sheffield-Buda beat Tampico 8-1 at the Minor League level and 8-7 at the Little League level. Sheffield-Buda also topped the Princeton Red Sox 5-3 in Little League play.
