SPRING VALLEY — Mary Sabatini, 97, formerly of 227 W. Devlin St., Spring Valley, passed away at 8:37 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Heritage Health-LaSalle, after a five-month illness.
Born Aug. 11, 1915, in Spring Valley to Frank and Lucia (Muraro) Saccaro, she married Joseph Sabatini Aug. 31, 1935, in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Spring Valley. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1985.
Along with her husband, she operated a grocery store and meat market in Dalzell for 25 years.
She was a member of the Parish of the Nativity of Our Lord in Spring Valley and the Mother Cabrini Sodality. She was also a member of the St. Margaret's Hospital Auxiliary, the Spring Valley Senior Citizens and the Spring Valley Democrat Club.
Surviving are one son, Dennis (Jackie) Sabatini of Spring Valley; two daughters, Joanne (David) Rutgens of Cedar Point and Donna (Joseph) Rutgens of Spring Valley; nine grandchildren, Dena Sabatini Kowalski, Jim Sabatini, Joey Sabatini, Jyll Sabatini Sterling, David Rutgens, Steven Rutgens, Susan Rutgens Korte, Aimee Rutgens and Joseph Rutgens; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two granddaughters, Julie Taliani and Kelly Jo Sabatini.
Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Parish of the Nativity of Our Lord, 510 Richard Mautino Drive, Spring Valley. The Rev. Robert Spilman will officiate. Burial will be in the Ladd Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
