Rural Ladd farmhouse destroyed in fire

LADD — A rural Ladd farmhouse was destroyed in a early Sunday morning fire.

On Monday, Ladd Fire Chief B.J. Liebe said the fire department got the call at 1:20 a.m. Sunday from a passerby going by the two-story house, located one mile west of Ladd and one-half mile south.

The farmhouse was actually within the Seatonville Fire Protection District, but the Ladd Department arrived first and took the lead, he said.

Upon arrival, the fire was already through the roof in the rear of the house, Liebe said. The fire did spread throughout the house, and though the structure is still standing, the house was a total loss.

Assisting the Ladd and Seatonville fire departments at the scene were fire departments from Spring Valley, DePue, Malden, Cherry, Arlington and LaMoille, as well as the 10/33 Ambulance Service from Spring Valley.

There was one minor injury to a fireman, but he was not transported to the hospital, Liebe said. The occupants of the residence, whom he declined to name, were not at home during the time of the fire.

The fire marshall was called to the scene to assist in the investigation, and the cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature, Liebe said.
