Sears, Burrows receive Reed Scholarship
Emmalee Sears and Cody Burrows have been named as the 2013 recipients of the Ted and Barbara Reed Scholarship at Princeton High School.
The scholarship is based on academic accomplishment and participation in sports, awarded each year in memory of the Reeds. Each recipient received $500.
Sears played four years of volleyball and basketball at PHS, three years of soccer and competed in track and field her senior year. She said sports played a tremendous role in her journey through high school. She considers herself a very competitive person who “thrives on hard work, dedication and success.”
She was ranked sixth in the class of 154 at PHS. She contributed her discipline, her devotion to her classes and her passion for learning and being the best she can be to help succeeding in the classroom.
Sears will be attending Palm Beach Atlantic University this fall, studying biology with a concentration in pre-health occupations.
Soccer was the sport of choice for Burrows, playing all four years at PHS. He was the recipient of the IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award his junior and senior years. He took part in the Tigers’ regional championship in 2012.
Ranked 12th in his class, Burrows said he always strived to achieve academically, trying to “increase my course difficulty level and take college prep courses.”
He will be attending Valparaiso University where he will major in mechanical engineering.
