PRINCETON — On May 26, John Hecker, the nephew of Joseph and Nancy Zearing, presented the “Joseph and Nancy Zearing Scholarships” to three graduating seniors who are members of the First United Methodist Church of Princeton. The scholarships are awarded based upon church involvement, scholarship and community service involvements.

Though the $1,000 scholarship is designed to celebrate the work of one graduating senior from Bureau Valley High School and one graduating senior from Princeton High School, this year’s applicants made it a very challenging decision for Hecker, the administrator of the fund. After much consideration, he decided that three scholarships for $750 each should be presented.

During the second worship service on May 26, Hecker presented checks, to be used for college expenses to, Samantha Krieger, a 2013 graduate from Bureau Valley High School, who will be attending Central College in Pella, Iowa, in the fall; Maxwell Boes, a 2013 graduate from Princeton High School, who will be attending Illinois Valley Community College; and Aaron Ray, a 2013 graduate from Princeton High School, who will be attending Arizona State University.
