Wanting the public's input
WALNUT — The village of Walnut wants to hear from its residents.
Aaron Staker, board member and chairperson of the Local Improvement Committee, requested the board hold an open public meeting to offer village residents an opportunity to suggest improvements within the Village.
The board agreed to have the open meeting and set it for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13. The board members discussed possible locations for this meeting and made the recommendation to check a couple of options. After a decision has been reached on the location, Staker will advertise the meeting details in local newspapers.
It is the desire of the board to give village residents this opportunity to express their ideas in an open meeting situation. A decision on the location will be reached as soon as possible so that advertising can be done in advance of the date.
Staker also reported to the board he is progressing on the establishment of a village website. He is close to getting bids from outside companies for the setup and maintenance of this website. He will present the bids to the board as soon as they are received. At that time, the village will take the next steps to getting a website set up. This website will be used for village announcements and other information for all residents.
In other business, President Dennis Grobe gave an update on the sale of the Hanson property. This real estate, currently owned by the village, is to be sold as soon as possible. The first step in the sale of this property is for the board to pass a resolution for the sale of this property. The board did so unanimously.
The next step in the sale process is for Grobe to notify village attorney Rob LeSage of the passage of the resolution. Then LeSage will complete the necessary advertising of the sale. The board is hoping the sale of this property can progress quickly.
At the conclusion of the meeting, village treasurer Nita VonHolten reported the meter reader employed by the village has resigned. An employment ad has been placed, and the position will be filled as soon as possible.
