Milles has gone miles for Wyaton Hills juniors
Jan Milles has been a fixture for 32 years at Wyaton Hills Golf Course, teaching junior golf lessons and building future golfers. This year was her last year teaching.
There were 42 junior golfers on Thursdays and 27 on Fridays. All of them signed a Wyaton Hills Flag and gave it to her on the last day.
“She has been so inspirational for each and every one of them,” said Wyaton Hills Linda Halberg.
Valley views: The fifth annual Illinois Valley Men’s Golf Open tees off Sunday at Seneca’s Oak Ridge Golf Course and will finish at the Mendota Golf Club Aug. 3. Tom Bauer, the Hall High School coach, is the defending champion, but will not be competing this year.
The Ladies will take their turn Aug. 11 for the Illinois Valley Women’s Golf Invitational at Edgewood Park Golf Course in McNabb. Hunter’s Ridge Katie Farrell is the defending champion. Call Edgewood at 815-882-2317 for more information.
Hall of Fame induction: Mary Daegraedt, who got her start at and was affiliated with Spring Creek Golf Course for 37 years, will be inducted into the LPGA teaching and Golf Professional Hall of Fame Aug. 19 as part of the Solheim Cup in Parker, Colo. She is already a member of numerous hall of fames, Spring Creek’s Kathy Potthoff said, and is well deserving.
Greater Princeton Open: The Greater Princeton City Open Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 3-4 with 18 holes at Wyaton Hills on Saturday, and 18 holes at Hunter’s Ridge on Sunday. It is open to anyone within the PHS No. 500 District or who is a member of Hunter’s Ridge, Wyaton Hills and Indian Hills golf courses in Tiskilwa.

Defending champions are Danny Nelson and Katie Farrell, both former BCR Golfers of the year.
Optimist Junior Golf: The annual Princeton Optimist Club’s Junior Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 2 at Wyaton Hills. Ages 12-14 will play nine holes and the 15-17 division will play 18 with the top six golfers qualifying for the last nine holes to determine the champion.
Entry forms are available at many area golf courses. There is a $10 entry fee to cover green fees and prizes. Checks should be payable to the Princeton Optimist Club and can be sent to Gary Patterson, 715 N. Linn, Princeton, Ill. 61356.

Hole in one: It may not have been the garden of Eden, but John Eden found his golf heaven, at Wyaton Hills Golf Course on July 19. Eden sank a hole-in-one on the No. 7 hole using his 7 iron. It was witnessed by Fred Kimberly, Tony Gonzalez and Bob Oakes.
Doug Hoffman Memorial: The fourth annual Doug Hoffman Memorial Golf Outing will be held Aug. 24 at Hidden Lake Golf Course in Sheffield. It is held to celebrate the life of Doug Hoffman, who passed away from cancer on June 24, 2009.
The four-person scramble will have a noon shotgun start. Cost is $50 per person which includes 18 holes, cart and a meal. All proceeds will benefit Spring Valley Hospice. Donations are accepted.
