Denson pleads guilty to attempted robbery

PRINCETON — A Spring Valley man has entered an open plea of guilty in Bureau County Court to the Class 3 felony of attempted robbery.

Demetrius D. Denson, 24, entered his guilty plea on July 17 before Circuit Judge Marc Bernabei. The judge ordered the probation department to conduct a pre-sentence investigation and set a sentencing hearing for 1:15 p.m. Aug. 23.

Denson was represented in court by Bureau County Public Defender Michael Henneberry. Prosecuting the case was Bureau County State’s Attorney Patrick Herrmann.

On April 23, a Spring Valley woman reported to the Spring Valley Police Department that a young male attempted to steal her purse outside a retail store in Spring Valley. The victim struggled for the purse with the young male, who fled without obtaining the purse or its contents. Following an investigation by the Spring Valley Police Department, Denson was arrested April 27.
