A good Dose of tennis

St. Bede senior Rachel Dose made a good showing in the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament.

She won the 17U girls singles title, defeating Bailey Bradish of Ottawa 6-3, 6-0. Two days later, she also won the women’s singles crown, defeating Sara Christensen of Mendota 6-0, 6-0.

Another SBA product, Dylan Slupianek, who was a member of the Bruins state qualifying team in 2005, beat Joe Davis of Streator to take the men’s singles consolation title.

Princeton’s Ashley Snow placed second in the women’s doubles, teaming with Oglesby’s April Kutz.

Rolle bolle: The Manlius Rolle Bolle club had 26 players for Wednesday league play and Jessica Taylor, Cris Jaggers and Tony Marchand were determined the winners.

Second went to Coleen VanKerreBroeck, Jeremy Roush and Rod Nelson, third to Lisa Marchand, Kenny Rodgers and Tyler Heitzler, fourth to Julie Lucas, Rick and Chuck Taylor, and fifth to Allison DeBrock and her father, Roger, and Michael J. Michlig.

Two weeks remain in the 2013 summer league games.

Bags tournament: The 158th Bureau County Fair will include a bags tournament beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday. Registration is limited to 32 teams, and will start at 5 p.m., with board assignments when the tourney begins. Teams are asked to enter at the west gate, as the tourney is in the infield of the racetrack.

Underground RR 5K: The 21st annual Underground Railroad 5K Run/Walk will be held Sept. 14 during the Homestead Festival. The race will begin and end at the Metro Center. Registration will be held from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m. with the race set for 8 a.m. Entry fee is $20 before race day and $25 on race day. For more information, call Tammy Lange at 815-872-0840.
