Young, Twidell lead Storm golfers
The Bureau Valley golf team has five returning members this fall with a nice mix of promising talent. Storm coach Dan Gustafson is looking forward to seeing how they all come together and progress as individuals.
“Overall, I see this year’s golf team as a very hard working bunch. I like the vibe that I get during practices and how well they work together as a team,” Gustafson said.
“The veteran golfers are really stepping up and helping the newcomers out giving them pointers and really showing them that golf is not only an individual sport but a team sport as well.”
Seniors Ryan Young and Logan Twidell return for their fourth season, serving as team captains this year. Young qualified for sectionals as a junior and Twidell just missed.
“These two golfers seem very energetic with the start of the season and have high expectations for themselves,” Gustafson said. “They have put a lot of work in on their off season and have the dedication that is required to be successful this season. I have a feeling that these two will be out ready to qualify for sectionals again if not farther.”
Also returning this year are junior Jacob Heidenreich and sophomores Harrison Brousseau and Jay Norden. Gustafson is pleased with the newcomers the Storm has gained and sees great potential in sophomores Jacob Cady and Justin Holmberg and freshmen Brock Lally, Jake Everson, Michael Law, and Nick Glubczynski.
The Storm opens the season at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley against the host Hall Red Devils. They travel to Midland on Thursday.
• Once again, there are no girls golfing for Bureau Valley.
