PRINCETON – It’s fair week in Bureau County! Families from all over will come together to make everlasting memories at the 158th annual Bureau County Fair.

Whether it’s to taste summer’s first corn dog, see a favorite country star, ride the merry-go-round or visit the animals – the fair has an attraction for everyone. Here is a little reminder of what’s to come this week, how much it’s going to cost and information on parking.

Prices

Daily entry prices for children ages 6 and under are free. Children ages 7 to 12 get in for $2; teenagers and adults get in for $5. Senior citizens (ages 62 and older) will have a special-priced day to visit the fair for only $2 on Thursday.

Anyone is welcome to purchase a season pass for $10, which allows people to pass through the gate as many times as possible throughout the week.

The fair’s special events begin on Wednesday with the garden tractor pull, which is free to the public. Also free, is the bags tournament and Bureau County Talent Show, which will take place on Thursday.

On Friday, country star Justin Moore will kick-off his performance. Tickets are $37 for gold circle seating, $32 for track and box seating and $27 for grandstand seating.

On Saturday, the truck/tractor pull will take place. Tickets are free for children ages 6 and under; $5 for children ages 7 to 12; $10 for teenagers and adults and $20 for pit passes.

On Sunday, the annual county-wide worship service is held at 10 a.m. in the grandstand. There is free admission and parking at the West Gate. The fair will wrap up with the demolition derby in the evening. General admission is $12, and box seating is $15.

The fair urges attendees of the special event shows to purchase their tickets in advance to avoid paying the gate fee into the fair. For those who don’t purchase their tickets in advance, they must pay the gate fee before purchasing their special event ticket.

Carnival

This year, the fair will present carnival rides from North American Midway Entertainment. Riders can purchase armbands for $20, which will allow unlimited rides for the day. On Wednesday, the rides will be open from 5 to 10 p.m., Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m., Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m.

Parking

Plenty of parking will be available on site at the fairgrounds. Attendees will be charged their gate fee before they park. Parking will be available near the East Gate, located on the corner of Crown Street and Gosse Boulevard; at the North Gate on the corner of South Cherry and West Crown streets. Also, parking will be available at the West Gate, located on the corner of South Fairgrounds Avenue and West Peru Street. The West gate parking may be most appropriate for attendees wishing to attend the special event shows near the grandstand area.

Free shows

The fair will also be offering fun, free entertainment for all ages throughout the week. All shows will take place at various times throughout each day of the fair.

Free entertainment includes the Bear Mountain Wildlife Show, which offers an upbeat, educational show. Audiences will get to meet five different bears: Giza, Nanook, Tutter, Nemo and Zuzu.

Also, families can check out The Magic of Bob Bohm Show. For more than 30 years, Bohm has performed thousands of tricks and illusions. Bohm will put on a “survivor” family game show, which will involved audience members and engage them in silly games of skill to hilarious results.

The Progressive Edges ChainSaw Artist will also dazzle visitors with unique wood carving skills. Attendees will be able to watch the special guest wood carver turn 6-foot logs into a wide variety of detailed figures.

The Farmer for a Day activity is also back this year by popular demand. The fun takes places in Exhibit Hall 4 and will teach kids of all ages what it’s like to live on a farm.
