Parking lot repairs

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Metro Center in Princeton will be closed three days next week for parking lot repair.

Princeton Park District Executive Director Elaine Russell has announced the Metro Center will be closed Aug. 26, 27 and 28 for the repair project. The entire facility will be closed.

“We have been told that once the project is started it should only take two to three days, of course depending on the weather,” Russell said. “Again, we will use all means of communication including Facebook and our website www.princetonparkdistrict.org to communicate the re-opening.”

The outdoor Alexander Swimming Pool will be open during the regular Metro Center pool hours, weather permitting, Russell said. The Metro Center pool schedule can be found on the park district’s website or a copy of the schedule is available at the front desk of the Metro Center.

“The board and staff of the Bureau County Metro Center do not want to inconvenience anyone by closing, however, this is a much needed project,” Russell said. “Please mark your calendars to check regularly with us for updated information.”

As reported earlier in the Bureau County Republican, Superintendent of Parks Keith Scherer said the parking lot project at the Metro Center will include the removal and paving of the center island that currently designates parking spaces for patrons. The project will also include the resurfacing of a dumpster collection site on the east side of the building.

At its July 15 meeting, the park board awarded the Phase 1 parking lot project to Advanced Asphalt with a low bid of $43,602. Phase 2 of the project will include the resurfacing of the remainder of the Metro Center parking lot and will come from the 2014-15 fiscal year budget, with bids for Phase 2 expected to go out next year.
